What is a time-out?
The idea behind time-outs is to remove the child away from the scene of unacceptable behaviour for a few minutes, giving both the child and parent time to calm down.
In the old days, many children were sent to their bedrooms, but these days the childcare experts all seem to agree that the naughty step or time-out zone should be a boring part of the house like the bottom step of the stairs. This allows the parent to keep an eye on, or listen out easier for the child during the time-out period.
