Encourage good behaviour

This all ties in with ‘positive parenting’. Praise your children when they are being good and reward them with your attention and love. Rewarding them with sweets is not nearly as effective as a big smile and a hug!
We are fans of the Star Chart system which lists out the actions that our family consider to be positive and negative. Positive behaviour such as making beds or helping a younger sibling are rewarded with a star, and negative behaviour such as bad language or sulking earns a black mark. Saving up 25 stars earns a reward like a trip to the cinema.
